Chabe, Mauldin's newest K-9, made his first narcotics bust in June, according to police reports.
During a traffic stop conducted in Ed's Corner Mart at East Butler Road and Hyde Circle, about 3.33 grams of "green leafy substance" were retrieved from a suspect.
Chabe gave a positive alert to the passenger door of the vehicle, according to an incident report.
The suspect was charged with intent to distribute and distribution near a school, according to the report completed by Patrolmen Matthew Henry and Jorge Crumpton.
According to Henry, the dog's handler, this was Chabe's first drug bust since his May 14 arrival at the department
Henry described Chabe as a hard worker who enjoys his job and gets along with everyone at work.
The city was originally going to fund a fourth K-9 as a bomb detection dog, but had to replace the spot that Billy, a black Labrador, left when he died last summer.
Chief Bryan Turner said the department is still planning to add a fourth dog for bomb detection to the squad.

K-9 Soldiers Who Gave Their All...

VALCO

SPIKE

My boyfriend, Master Sergeant Don Weir (USAF), is stationed for his second tour in Iraq at a base somewhere in Western Iraq. Of course, he cannot disclose his exact location, but he is near Air Base Al Asad for reference. Each day he walks by the "Wall of Warriors", dedicated to fallen soldiers in his unit. These tributes are placed at the entrances to each main building on the camp. I wanted to share with all of you two warriors who sacrificed their lives serving their masters and ultimately, their country. Their memory is interlaced with all their human comrades on those same walls.

Don isn't certain what the exact details of each dogs' story is, but he is certain that these dogs were decorated tracking and attack soldiers. He will try to provide details later. I wanted to post photos Don took today of these beautiful dogs (at the monument) to share with all of you. The kennel at this particular base (with a strong Air Force and Marine presence) is named after Spike. Don will try to capture more images as he can.

Please enjoy. I know you will all pay homage to these wonderful canine soldiers - true heroes. You can read more comments from Don at his online gallery HERE.

3rd Annual "Dogs of Hall" Dog Show

First of all, I want to thank Custom K-9 Trainer for inviting me to join this great blog that honors man's most constant and loyal companion. I truly look forward to reading and contributing here.

That leads me to the subject of my first blog post here - the Third Annual "Dogs of Hall" Dog Show! This is a purely for-fun event that benefits the Humane Society of Hall County. With categories such as "Precious Pups", "Old Faithful", "All-American Mutts" and "Blue-blooded Bowsers", ANY dog can enter and be treated like a pampered pooch! Each year we have local "celebrity" judges participate. Last year our very own Custom K-9 Trainer was a judge and he also delivered an excellent Q&A session to the audience. (Perhaps he will be willing to do the same this year???)The show was a great success - between concession sales, entry fees, sponsorship and raffle ticket purchases, our grand total raised was close to $4000! This year my co-director CJ and I hope to bring in $6000. 100% of the proceeds go to the Humane Society.

Here are the specifics on this year's dog show:

DATE: Sunday, October 5th
TIME: 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Lakewood Baptist Church - Gainesville, Georgia
ENTRY FEE: $20.00 per dog (ALL participants get a t-shirt and a goody bag)

For more information, please contact the Humane Society: 770.532.6617 or e-mail me at akira30501@yahoo.com

I will post more information and updates all along. Please join us for this great community event!
